Funny story about first job: As an art teacher the first few years were tough. I had 40 first graders at a time. The first time we used liquid paints it was a disaster. By the time the kids left my room they were covered in paint, as was the whole room and me. All I could do was sit down and laugh and then start cleaning things up. After that, we used block temperas to paint, much less messy but still great for creative work!
As a figurative painter, Shannon Soldner’s work imagines the stories people tell themselves, the personal mythologies created to make sense of the world. Her work seeks to give a glimpse into the fictitious inner worlds of her subjects. Through her narrative paintings, she asks the viewer not only to explore these myths and fables but also to question their own.
