Mike & Rockie
Mike and Rockie Alden moved to Columbia Missouri 20 years ago when Mike accepted the position of Director of Athletics at the University of Missouri (August of 1998.) He served in that capacity for 17 years, earning many awards for his leadership, and ultimately transitioned MU to the SEC. Upon his retirement from Athletics, Mike took an Associate Teaching Professor position with MU. He is now also establishing the Center for International Leadership and Learning which coordinates study/research for faculty and students worldwide. The current focus is on Vietnam, with future efforts to extend to South Africa, India and South America.
Rockie has enjoyed many roles in the Columbia Community including work with CPS schools, Room at the Inn, American Heart Assoc., Love Inc, Olivet Church, Alzheimer Association. and United Way. Servant leadership is a priority to both Aldens, whatever role they are in. When not busy serving, they enjoy spending time with their son, Jake, who is currently a History teacher in Arizona.
Alec is a longtime member of the Columbia clay community. Whether teaching privately or at Access Arts, he loves seeing his students connect with clay and one another. That connection is “what it’s all about,” according to Alec, and what prompted him to design and build a studio just north of town. Ramlow Studio hosts workshops, impromptu gatherings, and visiting artists. When he’s not up to his elbows in clay, Alec also pursues landscaping and interior design, always striving to make our surroundings more inviting. His favorite way to spend the evening is with a good meal in the company of good friends and family.
Jet is a multi-media writer, director and producer. He first began applying his joy for writing as a singer-songwriter, while recording and producing his own music. From there, Ainsworth moved into broadcasting where he was a top rated Columbia radio talk show host throughout his 15-year career. Jet is still working in broadcasting as a network writer and producer, still writing and recording new music, and a few years ago began his journey in film making. With a collection of award nominations for his short films in the past two years, he is excited to bring his organic and intimate style of film craft to Access Arts and CelebrARTy.
